Wonder Woman’s standalone movie is hitting screens next summer with Gal Gadot as the titular heroine, and now the iconic character’s origin story is getting a movie of its own.

Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall, and Bella Heathcote are set to star in the upcoming indie feature film Professor Marston & The Wonder Women, which tells the story of the man behind Wonder Woman’s creation and the women who inspired him, it was announced Friday.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has picked up the worldwide rights for the film, which has already begun production.

A logline for the project reads, “In a superhero origin tale unlike any other, is the true story of 1940s Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston, the inventor of the lie detector and creator of the iconic Wonder Woman, who defends his feminist superhero against charges of ‘sexual perversity’ while at the same time maintaining a secret that could have destroyed him. Unknown to others, Marston’s inspiration for Wonder Woman was his wife Elizabeth Marston and their lover Olive Byrne, two empowered women in the field of psychology who defied convention, building a secret life together with Marston that rivaled the greatest of superhero disguises.”

Angela Robinson is directing the film from a screenplay she wrote. Amy Redford, Andrea Sperling, and Terry Leonard are producing, and Transparent creator Jill Soloway is executive producing along with Boxspring Entertainment co-founder Clare Munn.

Evans, who will play Marston, can be seen in the just-released thriller The Girl on the Train and recently wrapped production on Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Hall was last seen in this year’s The BFG, while Heathcote will appear in Fifty Shades Darker, which hits theaters in February.
